Why I still Love Instagram
Oh Instagram, you know what I still love you. Even though I feel like you stalk me a little bit too much with your sponsored posts; that I see the same collection images but none from some of my other favourites; and that I see posts from 6 days ago. Remember when we were all about a new start and beginnings in January, but we kept being reminded about Christmas Eve? Yeh, not so cool.
But I do feel like Instagram is strong becoming the social media darling. It's the place were I see people talk the most, support other business and just rally around each other. Sometimes I can feel like I''m talking to no one on my blog, in fact, I'm probably only ever talking to myself, on rare occasions my mum as well but on Instagram I feel like we're all taking the time to properly read people's stories, see their Insta-life and connect.
I love Instagram for the variety; okay well maybe not this past week: I have seen A LOT of pancake pictures! But in general, you get to see a real glimpse of people's inspirations and thoughts behind the photos. I have admiration for those who have a consistent theme going; it always looks stunning. Me? I'm lucky if I can get 6 consecutive pictures in a theme, let alone the entire grid. But that's what makes Instagram fun for me; one minute there's the muted tones, next a pop of colour, the next people's gorgeous holidays. And yes, I'm well aware people's lives aren't Instagram worthy all the time, but I like it as a creative release, for the fun side.
And I feel the story element helps bring people's Instagram feeds back down to reality- for the people I follow anyway. Yes, their grid might post beautiful pink wall backgrounds; cocktails in the city; the latest designer bag but their stories say, god I had horrendous cramps last night; it's rained all day and I'm in the worst shoes for rain; Mount Vesuvius is growing on my face... well you get the picture.
I like the balance it can bring and the community it is bringing. I try and make a habit of commenting on people's blogs and answering the comments on mind, but I see this happening less and less. But on Instagram? Well Instagram seems to bring out the cheerleaders in all of us. We are tagging people, following people in return, liking photos and conversing more than ever. The algorithm is sucky and why they haven't learnt and changed the system I don't know but I'm seen my engagement grow ever so slightly and just seen an old school internet vibe from the Instagram world. So for this Valentine's Day, I'm spreading my Insta-love and wishing and hoping everyone is going to keep up this love affair of commenting on pictures and stories; having Friday Follows; and keeping the creativity going. Tell me, is more love or hate for Instagram at the moment?
